GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Jordan Love may have been the biggest winner on the second day of the Green Bay Packers’ draftThe Packers got a few weapons for their new starting quarterback in the NFL draft on Friday night: They selected Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave and Michigan State wide receiver Jayden Reed in the second round and South Dakota State tight end Tucker Kraft in the third round.“I think any time you’re going to have a quarterback that’s under center for the first time, you want to surround him with playmakers, so that was definitely part of the conversation,” Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan said.Green Bay chose Musgrave with the 42nd overall selection, a pick they acquired in the trade that sent four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. Rodgers’ exit hands the starting quarterback job to Love, who has made just one start since the Packers selected him out of Utah State in the first round of the 2020 draft.T...

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) -- A Colorado man nearly died on the job after suffering a severe allergic reaction. Clear Creek EMS performed an advanced medical procedure on the spot and saved his life, which led to a very emotional reunion. That magical moment happened on Thursday when Dave Itrich was able to look the men and women who saved his life in the eyes and say thank you. Through joyous tears and warm embraces, Itrich is giving all the praise to the emergency medical services team, calling them heroes."It's not every day you get a second chance," Itrich said.On the job, then anaphylactic shockFor Itrich, a second chance at life is his reality after surviving a near-death experience on April 14. He works at the Kum & Go in Idaho Springs, and it was a typical day, but things took a terrible turn."I had shook somebody's hand and scratched my mouth, and they had to have shellfish on their hands because that's the only thing I'm that allergic to," Itrich said. Lowry: President is no defender of democracy

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:36:58 GMT

Joe Biden’s video announcing his reelection bid makes much of his supposed defense of democracy. If it weren’t for that, it strongly implies, he’d be happy to decamp to Rehoboth Beach to a content retirement rather than stay on the job until age 86, guarding against threats to the republic. There is no doubt that Donald Trump’s conduct after the 2020 election was a disgrace, but Trump’s failings don’t excuse Biden’s lapses. One would think posing as a defender of our system would force Biden to be more fastidious about his own relationship to our institutions and norms, although that doesn’t seem to have occurred to him.Biden has shown himself to be a determined enemy of the rule of law and constitutional constraints on the power of the executive branch. This is one of the most consequential aspects of his presidency.Put aside the big kahuna, the student-debt forgiveness, which has no plausible basis in law, and the ongoing treatment of ...

They grew up on vintage vinyl, and their sound is steeped in classic soul and garage rock. But it was film and TV licensing that helped make stars out of the UK band The Heavy.Their 2009 hit “How You Like Me Now?” alone was in a dozen TV shows including “Vampire Diaries” and “Entourage,” it also appeared in a slew of sportscasts and was even heard at President Obama’s first victory party. So whenever The Heavy makes an album, including their just-released sixth disc “Amen,” the movie and commercial folks start lining up.“I do believe that’s because Dan [guitarist Dan Taylor] and I always try to take the songs as far as possible and make them as cinematic as we can,” singer Kelvin Swaby said this week. “That probably attracts music supervisors. Being music fans, the two of us were looking for a big sound when we started the band, and we were always ambitious. We’d be chopping up Doors samples and throwing in bits of Bill Withers and Bo Diddley — anything to make it sound like m...

Davis: VA reform should not punish veterans

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:36:58 GMT

When I served in Congress during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, reforming the Veterans Administration was a hot button issue. It still is.While my fellow Democrats and Republicans across the aisle worked hard to oversee and fund America’s second largest government agency only behind the Defense Department, it was a challenge to more effectively support 18 million veterans who served our nation proudly.Though I’m glad to see VA budgets increase to record levels over the past several years under both the Trump and Biden administrations, having served on the House Appropriations Committee, I know that simply allocating more dollars doesn’t necessarily yield better results. With America $31 trillion in debt and growing, government spending must be trimmed if the country is going to survive. Finding ways to do that are painful, yet essential.Yet the major VA reforms under discussion today are a nightmare for veterans and should be redirected into better ideas. The first is so-called “me...

Chris Perkins: Top players still available for Dolphins on Day 3 of NFL draft

The Dolphins have two draft picks on Saturday’s final day of the 2023 NFL draft — No. 197 of the sixth round and No. 238 of the seventh round. The Dolphins, who have four selections in this draft, didn’t have a first-round selection; their first two selections of the draft were in the second and third rounds. Here are some of the best players still available in the draft:Dawand Jones, OT, Ohio StateIt’s a surprise Jones (6 foot 8, 374 pounds), a right tackle, is still available. The Dolphins would likely have to trade up to acquire Jones, and while that’s not likely, it’s possible.Dalton Wagner, OT, ArkansasWagner (6-8, 320) is a right tackle with good size and length. He’d be a backup as a rookie and it’s not known if he can play left tackle.John Ojukwu, OT, Boise StateOjukwu (6-6, 309) has long arms and good strength. He might project as a guard, which gives him versatility. Will Mallory, TE, University of MiamiMallory (6-4, 239) can ru...

Chris Perkins: Dolphins drafted the best players available instead of filling needs. Stay tuned …

So, now the Dolphins are even more loaded at cornerback, a position they already had lots of talent, and they remain suspect at positions such as tight end, right tackle and left guard. This is the offshoot of the Dolphins selecting South Carolina cornerback Cam Smith with their second-round pick Friday night. You could say the same about the running back position after the Dolphins selected Texas A&M’s Devon Achane with their third-round pick. These selections were the so-called BPA — Best Player Available — as opposed to picking for need.Sometimes BPA is a welcome approach. On Friday, it was a head-scratcher — according to fans on social media. But not to the Dolphins. They’re clear and resolute in the reasons for their selections. They want talent, regardless of position.“You always try to position yourself [to] go into the draft to be able to take the best player, regardless of position,” coach Mike McDaniel said. “Sometimes you h...
